About Pam Hourihan

I am an experienced Professional Therapist offering assistance to people who wish to make changes in their lives, either by addressing issues from the past or who wish to work more in the ‘here and now’.   pam

I work with clients by either using Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy(CBH) for specific issues; by using Counselling on its own to assist in life’s emotional difficulties or, on occasions by using a mix of both methods to work with you on a number of issues.

Whichever approach we agree on, you can be assured the sessions will be personally tailored to your needs and requirements and where we are working together for more than 4 sessions, I will undertake regular reviews with you of how our work is progressing.

My aim is to help you experience growth, positive change and self understanding in a beneficial and fulfilling way. I also believe that adults who have suffered abusive or traumatic experiences can move forward in Therapy in a positive and gentle way from being 'survivors' to becoming 'thrivers'.

My experience comes from working for agencies specialising in areas such as womens issues, mental health, educational establishments, young people and disability issues, as well as from my Private Practice. I also see individuals who are referred to me via Occupational Health departments and I am an Affiliate Counsellor to several Employee Assistance Providers.

I hold a personal interest in intuition and spirituality and I also have a growing interest in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I have taken additional training in the Neuroscience of Psychological Therapies and the treatment of Trauma and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), which I am particularly interested in.

In addition, I am also a Qualified Supervisor providing support, assistance and encouragement in a collaborative way to other Therapists who are either also Qualified or undertaking their training.

I strive to facilitate a supportive and encouraging environment, in which I offer you open mindedness and flexibility.

I am employed as a Group Supervisor at the Harrow Womens' Centre and at Harrow Carers Support; I supervise Counsellors in training from various Colleges/Universities and I am also an Approved Supervisor to students attending the Foundation Degree course in Counselling at Harrow College.

I aim to provide a safe and confidential service which is ethical, professional and effective. I remain committed to working in a way which trusts each individual; client or supervisee, to know what works best for them.

As a member of BACP, GHR, GHSC and CNHC, I am bound by their Ethical Frameworks for Good Practice and I am subject to each of their complaints procedure. I hold up to date Indemnity Insurance along with a current CRB certificate.
